For more than a week, more than 150 women have bravely come forward to tell their stories of abuse at the hands of former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University Doctor Larry Nassar. While the media has given the case some attention, according to Law&Crime founder Dan Abrams, there has not been enough widespread focus.
“Yes, it’s been in the national news. Yes, there has been some coverage. But in a different time in this country’s history, we would all be watching this together–not just on the Law&Crime Network–we’d be watching this on every network in America. On every cable channel,” Abrams explained, while hosting on the Law&Crime Network. “We would be watching and hearing from these women. Because I think one of the problems has been that these women–and you know, look as we’re talking about the numbers–this is 156 or 168–the identities get lost here. But each one of these women suffered. And we cannot forget about the individual suffering, which is why I think it is so important that we hear this.”
Law&Crime founder Dan Abrams noted this discrepancy during a discussion break on the Law&Crime Network on Wednesday, which is livestreaming the sentencing–following the powerful, final victim impact statement made by Rachael Denhollander. Nassar has already been sentenced to 60 years in federal prison on child pornography charges.
