Trump Mar-a-Lago Travels Cost About as Much in 10 Weeks as Obama in 2 Years, Report Says

During President Barack Obama‘s presidency, LawNewz.com would, from time to time, report on just how much taxpayer money the First Family was spending on travel. It’s only fair that Donald Trump get the same scrutiny, especially since he appears to be on pace to dwarf his predecessor’s travel totals. Indeed, with the amount of time President Trump has spent at Mar-a-Lago and other properties of his during his nascent presidency, he’s making Obama look downright hermit-like.

Less than 100 days into his term, President Trump has reportedly spent in the neighborhood of $24 million just on trips to Florida, which The Independent says is more than President Obama spent on travel in his first two years in office.

The publication estimates that security costs for the President’s Mar-a-Lago visits over the course of a four-year term could reach $600 million, noting that this is slightly more than the $597 million he’s looking to cut from the federal government’s budget. The New York Times reports that Trump has spent 21 out of his first 80 days in office at Mar-a-Lago.

This is all on top of the expenses that New York City is incurring while First Lady Melania Trump and son Barron remain in the Big Apple instead of moving to the White House. According to the NYPD, protection for Trump’s wife and son costs between $127,000 and $146,000 per day.
