A new book by author Michael Wolff about the inner-workings of the Trump White House dominated headlines yesterday after excerpts revealed some rather strong statements about the president and his family from former adviser Steve Bannon. Now, Donald Trump‘s lawyer, Charles Harder, is threatening Bannon with a lawsuit.
Harder, known best for representing Hulk Hogan in his case against Gawker, said in a letter to Bannon that his statements to Wolff violated non-disparagement and confidentiality agreements that he had signed, “by, among other things, communicating with author Michael Wolff about Mr. Trump, his family members, and the Company, disclosing Confidential Information to Mr. Wolff, and making disparaging statements and in some cases outright defamatory statements to Mr. Wolff about Mr. Trump, his family members, and the Company[.]”
The letter to Bannon didn’t specify how much money the Trumps would seek in a potential lawsuit, but it detailed which sections of the agreements Bannon allegedly violated.
In a statement, Harder acknowledged the letter he sent to Bannon, and said “legal action is imminent.”
In Wolff’s book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, Bannon is quoted as calling Ivanka Trump “dumb as a brick,” and saying that a meeting Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and Paul Manafort had with a Russian attorney was “treasonous.”
Trump himself responded to the Bannon’s published statements by saying that when Bannon lost his job at the White House, he also “lost his mind.”
