Russian Government Tried, Failed to Hack 2016 Election Results in Wisconsin, Officials Say

The Department of Homeland Security told Wisconsin authorities on Friday that they were among 21 states whose election systems were targeted by hackers backed by the Russian government. Wisconsin Elections Commission administrator Michael Haas said hack failed. The state’s election systems were not effected.

U.S. Intelligence Officials say that the Russian Government backed cyberattack efforts to undermine Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and help Republican Donald Trump.

A special counsel and several congressional committees are looking into whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Kremlin to win the election. The president has denied the allegation, calling it a “witch hunt.”
