Police responded to an active shooter report at the Trump National Doral Miami resort early Friday morning. After exchanging fire with the suspect, officers were able to stop and apprehend the man.
It began at about 1:30 a.m. after a man reportedly walked into the lobby saying something about President Donald Trump, laid an American flag on a counter and set off a fire alarm, drawing law enforcement officials. When officers arrived, the man allegedly shot at them. Police fired back, striking him several times before taking him for medical attention, the Miami Herald reported.
“He’s at the hospital stable. Don’t know how many times he was hit,” Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez said.
Doral Mayor J.C. Bermudez said no civilians other than the shooter was hurt. There were hotel guests and employees present in the lobby at the time, but it wasn’t crowded. One officer reportedly suffered a broken wrist.
The Secret Service later showed up to investigate, saying they were “on the scene and working closely with our law enforcement partners.” According to CBS News, they confirmed that no “protectees were in the Miami region at the time of the incident.”
President Trump’s son Eric Trump thanked officers in a Friday morning tweet.
