All 12 judges from the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral arguments over whether Brendan Dassey was wrongfully convicted for the 2007 murder of Teresa Halbach. Listen to the arguments from both sides, including questions from the judges, in the player below:
A lower court overturned his conviction earlier this year, determining that Dassey’s confession was made under duress during a police interrogation. A three-judge panel from the Seventh Circuit upheld that decision, leading prosecutors to request an en banc review from the entire roster of judges.
Dassey was accused of aiding his uncle, Steven Avery, in killing Halbach. Avery was convicted and sentenced to life in prison, and is appealing that decision.
