Jacksonville Sheriff Mike Williams held a press conference on Sunday afternoon following the mass shooting at the “Madden NFL ’19” video game tournament which left at least four people dead and several others injured.
In a series of brief comments, Williams noted, “We just finished clearing the Landing of potential witnesses and victims–that type of thing. Here’s what we know up to this point. We have no outstanding suspects at this time. No outstanding suspects.”
Williams continued, offering the first bits of information about the alleged shooter. He said:
We have one suspect in this case. He is deceased at the scene at this point. He is a white male and we are still working to confirm his identity.
The sheriff went on to note the aftermath and discuss a video that’s making the rounds across the internet. He said, “We have deceased victims at the scene. We also have injured people at the hospital. And we will release counts later on. We don’t have a count for you today, currently. We are aware of a video that’s out on social media. We have that video.”
Sheriff Williams also encouraged anyone with additional videos or information to come forward and provide such information to the proper authorities by way of dedicated tip lines or otherwise.
When asked a question about the witnesses, Williams noted that his officers were currently working with witnesses and that they have “several, several witnesses” willing to assist in the effort so far.
