George Papadopoulos’ Wife: ‘I Trust and Hope’ That Trump Will Pardon Husband

It seems lately that President Donald Trump is handing out pardons like Oprah Winfrey used to hand out audience giveaways, and now the wife of former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos is hoping that her husband can get in on the action. Simona Mangiante Papadopoulos appeared on Fox News Monday night and told host Tucker Carlson that she hopes Trump pardons her husband, was convicted after he pleaded guilty to providing false statements to investigators in the Russia probe.

“Do you think your husband’s going to prison?” Carlson asked Mrs. Papadopoulos, to which she replied that her husband George was “dedicated and committed” to the Trump campaign. Because of this loyalty, she said, “I trust and hope and ask to President Trump to pardon him. I hope he will.” She insisted that her husband was not involved in any illegal activities with the campaign in collusion with Russia.

This comes nearly two weeks after Special Counsel Robert Mueller filed a status report in George’s case, saying that he’s ready to move forward with a presentence investigation report, with both parties to submit a joint status report by June 22. Barring any pardon, Papadopoulos could be sentenced some time later this summer. Papadopoulos admitted to Mueller that he had lied to investigators about conversations he had with a Russian professor with links to the Kremlin about possible dirt on Hillary Clinton.

Upon reaching the plea agreement, Papadopoulos agreed to cooperate with Mueller’s investigation, and his sentencing had been delayed in the meantime.
