Last week, it was reported that Bill Cosby was going to go on a speaking tour this summer, where he would teach young people about sexual assault. “We are now planning town halls and we’re going to be coming to this city sometime in July,” a spokesman for the comedian said on “Good Day Alabama.” Well, the tour may be a reality, but now one of Cosby’s publicists says that the subject matter will not be what was reported.
Ebonee Benson and Andrew Wyatt, who were on the “Good Day Alabama” segment, went on CNN’s “New Day Weekend” on Sunday to clear things up.
“I just want to be clear, the town hall meetings are not about sexual assault,” Benson said. “I will repeat. These town hall meetings are not about sexual assault.”
Cosby came under fire when it was believed that he was going to be educating the youth of America about sexual assault, given how he just finished a trial where he was facing sexual assault charges. The jury in the case, where Andrea Constand accused Cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting her, could not reach a unanimous decision, and the judge declared a mistrial. Prosecutors have already stated that they intend to hold a second trial. Additionally, dozens of other women have accused Cosby of sexual misconduct, but those cases did not result in criminal charges due to statutes of limitations expiring.
The aim of the speaking tour will be to revive Cosby’s image in the wake of his trial, and to discuss education.
Benson noted that Cosby will be taking questions from the audience at these meetings, and if people choose to ask him about the sexual assault allegations against him, he will answer, at least to the degree his lawyers will let him.
