O.J. Simpson‘s parole hearing is rapidly approaching, scheduled to take place on Thursday with Simpson participating via video conference from the Lovelock Correctional Facility in Nevada. Simpson is expected to go free, due to good behavior during the nine years he’s been incarcerated, but according to a former corrections officer, his chances were almost endangered over a cookie.
Jeffrey Felix told USA Today that when he was working at Lovelock, one inmate had stolen a bunch of cookies and handed them out to others, including Simpson. Apparently O.J. wasn’t very discreet when he was munching on the confectionery contraband, and got caught in the act by a corrections officer.
“And of course she said, ‘Where’d you get the cookie from?'” Felix recalled. “Well, O.J. doesn’t lie. He got it from a guy, a culinary worker.”
Felix said that the officer wrote him up for the illegal item. “Over a cookie. That’s pretty crazy,” he said.
The next day, O.J. told Felix what happened, and told him, “I can’t have a write up because I won’t get my parole.”
Felix went to bat for Simpson, but says that at first the officer wouldn’t budge on the matter. “I talked to the lady who wrote him up and she said, ‘I’m not changing my mind. He brought contraband on my tier.'” Felix claims that eventually he convinced her to tear up the citation by saying that it would negatively impact her reputation, and that people would start calling her “Cookie Monster.”
O.J.’s parole hearing will take place on Thursday at 1:00 pm ET/10:00 am PT, and it will be streaming live on the LawNewz Network.
