‘He Stole My Kids!’: Father, Good Samaritan Went on Car Chase to Save Kidnapped Children, Police Say

Saturday was pretty crappy for one family. Police say three children were kidnapped. The kids later turned up safe, but not before the father went on a frantic car chase, and authorities issued an AMBER alert.

This story comes out of Colerain, Ohio. Police said the father drove his children out to a Pit Stop, according to WCPO. He left the kids–two four-year-olds and a one-year-old–in the SUV while he was in the store. That’s when a man, later identified as Howard Mullis, stole the still-running vehicle, cops said.

In a press statement, the Colerain Township Police said a good samaritan helped the father chase the SUV, but they lost sight of it.

“He stole my kids,” the father said, as heard in 911 audio.

Cops said they were immediately able to identify Mullins as the suspect, and issued the AMBER Alert. Thanks to that, the SUV was spotted in the parking lot of a nearby Walmart. Cops discovered the vehicle there, with the three kids inside and unharmed. There was no suspect, however. He was gone.

Police said they eventually found Mullins in what they described as a wooded area. He confessed to the crime, they said, and they arrested him on auto theft and kidnapping charges. Authorities locked him up at the Hamilton County Justice Center, pending his arraignment.
