A flight on Monday from Houston to Minneapolis had to make an emergency landing because a passenger in the front of the plane was in a coma. Although the pilots initially planned to connect from Minneapolis to Michigan, they landed in Rochester, Minnesota instead.
That’s when the cursing and yelling began.
“Get me the fuck off this [inaudible] plane!” a female passenger yelled. “You want to be […] and bitchy to me? You’ll see me fucking pissed.” “Do you know who my brothers are? They are fuckiing Marine snipers. Do you want to fuck with a fucking Marine?” she continued.
Video posted on Facebook by Chianti Washington on Facebook shows the woman who is reportedly a military veteran suffering from PTSD running up and down the aisles of the Spirit Airlines plane screaming. Passengers were disturbed.
Stephanie Calder told KHOU that she was really concerned for her daughter’s safety during the episode.
“I was thinking I need to protect my 15-year-old daughter (who was headed to Detroit for a volleyball tournament),” she said. “I (was just) worried (the angry passenger was) going to go even more irate and so I just put my back toward my daughter and shielded my daughter in case this woman decided to. I was one row behind the emergency exit door. Now, we were landed but who knows what this woman could have done.”
The way Calder described the medical emergency that required the plane landing was odd. From the sound of it, the passenger slipped into a coma on the plane. Law&Crime reached out to Spirt Airlines for clarification.
“The attendant thought that he was just sleeping but he was actually in a coma,” she said.
That’s when the other situation requiring medical attention began.
Calder said she was saddened to learn the woman was experiencing mental health issues and wished “there was somebody on that plane (who) could have helped at that moment.”
Frances Andraya told ABC13 passengers were afraid.
“People were pretty scared, you know. There were several kids in the back of the plane. I don’t know about the front of the plane, but I know everyone in the back of the plane was pretty upset,” she said.
Another passenger got off the plane because they were not satisfied with the airline’s handling of the episode.
Spirit Airlines has released a statement apologizing to “guests who had to witness this and for the inconvenience of the delay.”
“Yesterday morning, a flight from Houston to Minneapolis had to land in Rochester, Minnesota due to a guest experiencing a medical emergency. On the ground in Rochester, another passenger became erratic and irate and was removed from the aircraft with the assistance of law enforcement,” Spirit Airlines said.
“Safety is our top priority at Spirit Airlines,” the statement ended.
