The Association of Professional Flight Attendants called for an investigation after a video hit social media showing performers dressed as flight attendants in a sexually charged skit, with the American Airlines logo in the background. The union president wanted to know exactly what role, if any, the airline had in the event.
“This cannot be happening in today’s environment. We will not tolerate our profession being objectified in a sexist manner,” union president Lori Bassani said. “We want the facts about the company’s involvement and we want answers.”
The video, which can be seen below, shows four women dressed as flight attendants, performing a suggestive rendition of Shirley Bassey‘s “Big Spender” for a man who is reportedly supposed to be a American Airlines Executive Platinum customer. The performers were reportedly off-duty flight attendants from the Dallas area.
The airline reportedly claimed that they had nothing to do with the event, which they said was organized by American Airlines customers and someone’s home. They said they had nothing to do with it, did not know what was going to be taking place there, and were unhappy that their logo was featured.
In a statement reported by Forbes, the airline said:
We spoke to the customer who posted the video and shared our concerns that the actions depicted in the skit he witnessed are demeaning to our professional flight attendants and crew members throughout the industry. We appreciate that he listened to our concerns and that he agreed to remove the video
