The former Miami stripper who broke into the Trump National Doral Resort where he caused a scene by ranting about President Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama, placed an American flag in the lobby and allegedly shot at police officers has been formally charged.
Jonathan Oddi, 42, is a real estate investor, a self-described fitness instructor, and a manager at a gemstone and mineral store called Pegasus, in addition to being a former stripper and pornographic actor. Originally from South Africa, Oddi grew up in Argentina, and eventually moved to Florida. Oddi was charged with attempted murder of law enforcement officers, armed burglary, and armed grand theft. Court records show that Oddi had no prior felony arrests, but a few traffic infractions.
Police took down Oddi with a shot to the leg. Oddi shot at a chandelier, ranted about the rapper P. Diddy and spewed anti-Trump rhetoric, according to the Miami Herald.
His attorneys, Christopher DeCoste and Tara Kawass have expressed that Oddi is apologetic, noting in a statement, “Mr. Oddi is coming to realize exactly what happened and is extremely remorseful.”
In the same statement, the attorneys said that much of their work will be determining why this incident happened. Investigators are also unsure what pushed Oddi to target the Trump National Doral Hotel.
Oddi is currently in Miami-Dade jail.
Previously, Oddi blurted out in court that he “did push the [fire] alarm” at the rest or that day.
“The defendant just admitted it,” Prosecutor Frank Ledee reacted. Oddi continued talking but couldn’t be heard because his attorneys cut his mic.
