A Massachusetts man was accused Friday of throwing a dog off the Point Independence Bridge in Onset Bay, Massachusetts. Video shows a figure tossing what seems to be an animal off into the water, and then leaping off.
That’s 51-year-old Kevin Ouellette, said a statement from the Wareham Department of Natural Resources. Investigators said they got a report on the evening of July 27 about a male subject tossing a dog off the bridge, and following after with a leap.
It wasn’t even his dog, and he took the animal without the owner’s permission, authorities said. The canine, a male American Staffordshire Terrier, remained uninjured despite being dropped over 12 feet, according to the statement.
In his defense, Ouellette allegedly said they do this often and the canine “likes it.” The video above is dated February 1, 2018. Authorities said surveillance footage came from a nearby business. They described the canine as “landing aggressively in the waterway below.”
“Dogs are not supposed to be tossed off of a bridge,” said the Department of Natural Resources when they first announced their probe July 28, “and no they don’t ‘like it.'”
And Ouelette’s not going to like these charges. Backed up by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department, Wareham Police Department, and Animal Resource League of Boston, an application for a criminal complaint was filed Friday in Wareham District Court. Animal cruelty by custodian, larceny from a building, and municipal by-law violation (bridge jumping) are the potential charges.
It’s unclear if Ouellette has an attorney in this matter.
