(1) Does the state require everyone to report child abuse, including sex abuse? No.
(2) Does the law require coaches to report child abuse? Yes, both volunteer and professional, and whether or not affiliated with a school, university, or college.
(3) Does the law require college staff to report child abuse? Yes. Louisiana law specifically includes college staff, including professors, under the definition of “teaching or child care provider,” which is one of the occupations which must report.
(4) Does the law allow jail time for those who fail to properly report abuse? Yes; the penalty is a misdemeanor, and punishment is up to six months in jail or a fine of up to $500.
