Former USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University doctor Larry Nassar is in the middle of another sentencing hearing for pleading guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Nassar was recently sentenced on seven counts of the charge in Ingham County, Michigan, and now faces another sentence for three more counts in Eaton County. The hearings have featured moving victim impact statements from well over a hundred women and girls who claimed Nassar sexually abused them during medical treatments. As emotions ran high Friday morning, the father of three of the victims couldn’t control his rage, attempting to attack Nassar in the courtroom.
“I want to ask you too, as part of the sentencing,” the man said to the judge, “to grant me five minutes in a locked room with this demon.” When the judge said she couldn’t do that, the man tried to bargain. “Could you give me one minute?”
“You know that I can’t do that, that’s not how are legal system works.”
Not happy with the response, the man suddenly bolted towards Nassar, and was immediately tackled down by a swarm of court officers. The judge halted the proceedings until order could be restored in the courtroom.
Nassar was sentenced to up to 175 years in prison at the end of the Ingham County sentencing, and was previously sentenced to 60 years in a federal child pornography case. The current sentencing hearing is expected to last into next week.
