‘That’s a Wrap!’: Officer Gives Tearful Goodbye over Police Radio After 30-Year Career

Andre Jenkins, a now-retired police officer with the Sarasota Police Department in Florida served his final day on the force on Friday, and bid a tearful farewell to his colleagues when he signed off over the radio for the last time. Capping a career that spanned 30 years, Jenkins choked back tears before addressing his colleagues one last time. The department posted video of the final sign-off on their Facebook page over the weekend.

“This will be my last transmission on the radio,” Jenkins announced. “I’d like to thank all my SPD family for the last 30 years of being by my side, and especially for today for making it a memorable one.”

Jenkins recalled the fond memories he has from his decades on the force, saying, “I’ll cherish them for the rest of my life.”

“I wish you all well and a safe tour of duty,” he said, before signing off.

A number of colleagues can be heard responding with their well-wishes.

“Andre, thank you for everything. Congratulations on your retirement,” one said.

“You earned it, buddy. Good job,” said another.

Jenkins replied, saying, “Thank you all. God bless you,” before putting down the radio and saying to the camera, “That’s it! That’s a wrap!”

At the end of the video, the department showed a message saying, “Congratulations Officer Jenkins! Thank you for your service! Stay safe!”
