Colorado man Christopher Watts is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. MDT to hear the charges formally pressed against him. He’s accused of killing his wife Shanann Watts, and their two daughters, 4-year-old Bella and 3-year-old Celeste.
The affidavit released on Monday stated that the defendant was in an affair with a co-worker.
He allegedly told cops repeatedly that he asked his wife for a separation on the morning of August 13, but at first said he simply left home for work. Only later did he admit to taking Shanann’s life, police said. That alleged confession came with a remarkable claim–That it was his wife, not him, who strangled the children to death. He, in a rage, then killed Shanann, he allegedly said. According to the affidavit, Watts said he took the bodies, drove them to a work site, dumped Bella and Celeste in oil tanks, and buried his wife nearby.
Prosecutors blame him for each of the deaths. They are going after him on murder charges for each victim, and are also charging him for terminating Shanann’s 15-week pregnancy, and hiding the bodies.
Shanann’s brother wrote on Facebook that she was expecting a son, to be named Nico.
Before his arrest, Christopher Watts appeared on Denver7 to say he didn’t know his family’s whereabouts.
“She said she was going to a friend’s house with the kids and that’s the last thing I heard, and that was it,” he said.
These murders left loved ones grieving and stunned. Nick and Amanda Thayer said they let Christopher Watts stay at their home after the victims went missing. There’s nothing but regret now.
“He fooled us,” he told ABC News. “And I’m so sorry. We just thought we were doing the right thing by being a good friend. We were duped.”
