An attempt to deliver necessities and comfort items to children in a detention center in McAllen, Texas appears to have gone awry for Maine Democrat Zak Ringelstein. Ringelstein, who is challenging Sen. Angus King for his seat, was arrested and it was all caught on camera.
The politician’s Twitter account and a lengthy video documented what went down at the facility. The Twitter version of events had four stages: #resist, attempted toy etc. delivery, #FreeZak and then an official campaign statement.

“U.S. Senate candidate Zak Ringelstein of Yarmouth, Maine was arrested this morning outside an internment camp in McAllen, Texas. Ringelstein, 31, was attempting to deliver water, food, blankets, book and toys to children imprisoned by the Trump administration,” the campaign said. “At this time, specific charges are not known. There has been no communication from Ringelstein since his arrest about 9:30 am EST.”
The Facebook video on Ringelstein’s campaign page, on the other hand, is more than an hour and half long.
“Attempting to deliver supplies to children at Trump’s interment camp in McAllen Texas,” he captioned the video.
The video shows everything from Ringelstein driving to the detention center to his arrest, which occurs around one hour and 33 minutes in. Ringelstein will apparently be facing a judge Friday afternoon in Texas.

The Press Herald described Ringelstein as “a former teacher and aspiring country singer who moved to Maine two years ago.”
Update: Ringelstein is being held on suspicion of misdemeanor criminal trespass, which upon conviction could result in a penalty of up to 6 months in jail.
