As the Trump Administration defends a policy of separating children from parents at the U.S.-Mexico border, Stormy Daniels‘ attorney Michael Avenatti is turning his attention to “Trump’s draconian policy” by offering legal services.
This happens as Avenatti’s suit against attorney Michael Cohen has slowed in California. It would represent a different sort of challenge to Trump.
“We are already mobilizing resources on the ground for this fight. By day’s end, we expect to have at least 20 detained mothers and children as clients. #Basta,” he said.
He tweeted earlier that he if “anyone knows of a parent that has their child taken from them at the border and not returned, please have them contact me as I am entering this fight.”
“This outrageous conduct must be brought to an end,” he added.
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said Monday that there would be no apology for “doing our job.”
“We have to do our job; we will not apologize doing for our job … This administration has a simple message: If you cross the border illegally, we will prosecute you,” she said.
At least 2,700 children have reportedly been separated from the parents at the border between Oct, 2017 and May 2018.
President Trump reacted to the outcry over this Monday morning by saying he doesn’t want “what is happening with immigration in Europe to happen with us,” that children are being used by criminals to enter the country and that this is the fault of Democrats who are “weak and ineffective with Boarder (sic) Security and Crime.” He also tweeted in all caps, “CHANGE THE LAWS!”
