The Weld County District Attorney’s Office is expected to formally file charges Monday against Christopher Watts, the Colorado man accused of murdering his pregnant wife and two daughters.
District Attorney Michale Rourke will make the announcement at a press conference to take place 4 p.m. MST (6 p.m. EST) in Greeley, Colorado. Watts is being held in jail for three counts of first-degree murder, and tampering with evidence.
His family was declared missing last Monday. Watts appeared in public as a worried father.
“I don’t know what to do right now,” he told Denver7. “I just feel so alone in this house right now. I don’t know where to go from here.”
Authorities arrested him Wednesday. They said he took the lives of his wife Shanann Watts, and their daughters, 4-year-old Bella and 3-year-old Celeste.
Shanann was 15-weeks pregnant. Her brother said that she was expecting a son, to be named Nico.
Expect Rourke to be reserved with details during the presser. For one, the news release about the press confession explained some information won’t be released because of the ongoing investigation.
The affidavit against Watts also remains sealed as of Monday afternoon. Krista Henery, a spokeswoman for the Weld County District Attorney’s Office, told Law&Crime that once charges are formally filed, prosecutors will ask a court to unseal this document.
Nonetheless, some details were made known because of available court documents. Christopher Watts’ attorneys filed a motion on Friday, asking that DNA samples be taken from the necks of Bella and Celeste. The motion reportedly suggested that the girls’ had allegedly been strangled. But again, prosecutors have yet to publicly announce the cause of death.
