The trial for Kaylee Whitehall, the Kentucky woman accused of killing her boyfriend, Kuston Johnson, in September 2015, continues. Jury selection and opening statements took place on Tuesday, before the prosecution began calling witnesses to testify.

Whitehall has been charged with reckless homicide, but she is claiming she acted in self-defense. She has claimed that her boyfriend’s death occurred after the two of them got into an argument. She says Johnson choked her, and they both threw things at each other. She claims that Johnson then choked her again, and then she picked up a knife and stabbed him, while he was behind her. The defense has alleged that the couple had a history of problems, and that witnesses had previously seen Johnson be physical with Whitehall. Whitehall wasn’t indicted until more than two months after Johnson’s death.
