WATCH: Aaron Hernandez Double Murder Trial Day 12

The trial of former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez continued on Thursday. Hernandez is accused of killing Daniel de Abreu and Safir Furtado on July 16, 2012 outside a nightclub after prosecutors say he became angry over a spilled drink.

On Thursday, the defense learned that the judge has decided to allow the testimony of a tattoo artist who is expected to testify on Friday about the presence of several tattoos that Hernandez received after the killing.  One of the tattoos in question includes a revolver with only five bullets in the chambers and prosecutors suggest this represents the five bullets Hernandez fired on the night of the killings.   Another tattoo includes the inscription “God Forgives” and another includes a the smoking barrel of a pistol.

Prosecutors are expected to suggest the tattoos are evidence of Hernandez’s guilt.

However, the defense will likely argue that the tattoos are not relevant to the killing and that the tattoo artist has changed his story in the past, making his claims unreliable.

Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to all counts in the 2012 killings.

The former football star is already sentenced to life without the possibility of parole when he was convicted nearly two years ago in another murder of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.  That case is on appeal.

Testimony in the trial will resume Friday and LawNewz will have live courtroom coverage and analysis of the action.
