He’s a ‘Real Danger to Our Country’: Cory Booker to Testify Against Sessions at Hearing

Monday night, New Jersey Senator Cory Booker went on MSNBC and discussed his “grave concern” with Donald Trump‘s upcoming presidency. Among those concerns are Trump’s cabinet picks, including Attorney General nominee Jeff Sessions, whose confirmation hearing begins Tuesday morning. Booker stated that he intends to challenge Sessions’ nomination when he testifies at the hearing.

This is a big deal, and Booker realizes it. There is a long-standing practice for sitting Senators not to testify against other sitting Senators at these meetings, but Booker plans on breaking tradition to do just that. “I’m ready to fight and resist anything that the Trump administration ultimately does to try to hurt people,” Booker said. ”

Booker supported his decision by saying that Sessions, as Senator, has voted or spoken out against the Matthew Shepard Act, a hate crime prevention law that passed in 2009, and the Voting Rights Act, first passed in 1965 to protect the rights of black voters. Booker said that Sessions’ positions pose a “real danger to our country,” and he plans on speaking out against him at the confirmation hearing.
