CNN’s Chris Cuomo went into full prosecutor mode when he had conservative commentator Ben Ferguson on his show on Monday to discuss a controversial case regarding a trans boy who recently won a girls’ wrestling championship amid a lawsuit to get him suspended in Texas.
Mack Beggs has been transitioning from female to male by using testosterone therapy since 2015, but he is only allowed to wrestle girls. In 2016, the University Interscholastic League, which governs public school athletics, requires student athletes to compete according to the gender assigned on their birth certificate. He simply can’t wrestle other boys in an official setting, though his family told The Dallas Morning News that he wants to.
Ferguson, who hosts The Ben Ferguson Show, argued on CNN that it was unfair for Beggs to wrestle against the girls because he is taking testosterone treatments.
“To say we have to change the entire way sports is done because of one person and their decision to do something is unrealistic,” Ferguson said.
Cuomo pushed back hard.
“People who are sharing your idea are using misinformation.. and mythology,” Cuomo continued, “The idea you are going to have genitals waved in their face.. my 12 year old.. my twelve year old daughter is going to have genitals in her face .. thats what you on the (Right) say.. you realize that is an absurd notion, right?” Cuomo said.
However, Ferguson contends that taking testosterone amounts to cheating. “What we are saying is that it is not abnormal or crazy or illogical to say that if you are born a boy that you use the boy’s restroom,” Ferguson replied.
