Two topless women reportedly supporting gender equality were handcuffed after they refused to cover themselves up outside a Bernie Sanders rally this week. The situation ended with one of the women being brought to the sidewalk so that officers could put her in handcuffs, as she fought to get free from their grasp. One of the women had “Feel the Bern!” painted across her chest. Both women reportedly put a small piece of tape over their breasts that said “Free the Nipple.”

According to The New York Daily News, they were being held early Thursday on $10,000 bail. “Free the Nipple” is part of  nationwide movement. Their website says, “We stand against female oppression and censorship, both in the United States and around the globe. Today, in the USA it is effectively ILLEGAL for a woman to be topless, breastfeeding included, in 35 states. In less tolerant places like Louisiana, an exposed nipple can take a woman to jail for up to three years and cost $2,500 in fines.”
