“No more chipping away of the Second Amendment,” Trump said to the riveted New Hampshire crowd. He said that France has the toughest gun laws in the world, and still “these animals go in” and wreak havoc (referring to the Paris terrorist attacks). But, Trump has come under recent criticism by some who say he’s flip flopped on gun rights.
For example, when Trump toyed with the idea of running in 2000, he outlined in his book, The American We Deserve, some of his policies, including his thoughts on gun control.
“The Republicans walk the NRA line and refuse even limited restrictions. I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun,” Trump wrote.
The 2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump, however, is a much more fervent gun rights supporter. In fact, earlier this year Trump vowed to “un-sign” President Obama’s executive orders on gun control.
“You know, the system’s supposed to be you get the Democrats, you get the Republicans, and you make deals. He can’t do that. He can’t do that. So he’s going to sign another executive order having to do with the Second Amendment, having to do with guns. I will veto. I will unsign that so fast,” he said back in January, according to CNN.
Trump even said that armed teachers could have stopped the recent Oregon massacre.
And he is apparently a gun owner, even recently bragging that he has a concealed carry permit and that he “carries, sometimes a lot.”
