The trial of former University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing is underway and you can watch every minute of courtroom action live on LawNewz.com (video above will be live when court is in session).
Tensing is charged in connection with the shooting death of motorist Sam DuBose during a traffic stop near the University of Cincinnati campus in July 2015.
Tensing took the stand on Tuesday and addressed the black t-shirt with a small Confederate flag that he wore under his uniform on the day of the shooting. He told the jury he received the shirt a long time ago as a gift and he wore it because he was required to wear a black t-shirt under his uniform
The former cop also testified to his state of mind during the shooting, telling jurors he believed DuBose was trying to run him over before he fired the fatal shot.
“So I’m falling backwards and I’m falling lower and lower . . . against his driver’s door,” Tensing said. “I remember thinking, ’Oh my god,’ that he’s gonna run me over and he’s gonna kill me.”
Prosecutors, however, have argued the fatal shot was fired before DuBose’s vehicle moved.
Closing arguments are expected to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning and the jury will likely begin deliberations by Wednesday afternoon.
