The trial of former University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing is underway and you can watch every minute of courtroom action live on LawNewz.com (video above will be live when court is in session).
Tensing is charged in connection with the shooting death of motorist Sam DuBose during a traffic stop near the University of Cincinnati campus in July 2015. Body cam video of the incident will likely prove to play a crucial role at trial.
On Thursday, prosecutors played a videotaped interview Tensing gave to police during the investigation into the shooting. During the in the interview, Tensing told investigators about his state of mind during the shooting and said it was his “intention was to stop the threat” because he believed DeBose “was actively trying to kill” him. Tensing also said DuBose tried to drive away from the stop and he was being dragged alongside DuBose’s vehicle when he fired the shot.
However, the prosecution also called a video expert who analyzed the body cam footage of the incident frame by frame and challenged Tensing’s assertion. The expert testified that he believed the shooting occurred before DuBose’s vehicle moved.
