The trial of former University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing is underway and you can watch every minute of courtroom action live on LawNewz.com (video above will be live when court is in session).

Tensing is charged in connection with the shooting death of motorist Sam DuBose during a traffic stop near the University of Cincinnati campus in July 2015.  Body cam video of the incident will likely prove to play a crucial role at trial.

On Wednesday, the only civilian witness to the crime, Alicia Napier, took the stand.  “After I hear the ‘pow,’ that’s when I (witnessed) DuBose’s car move in the middle of the street,” she testified.

The defense claims that Dubose was driving away and dragging Tensing  when he opened fire. The prosecution contends he wasn’t driving away. The two officers who testified said they did hear tire wheels squealing

During opening statements, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters told jurors they will hear an audiotaped statement of Tensing telling investigators he intended to shoot DuBose.  Defense attorney Stew Mathews did not deny the shooting was intentional, but he argued it was justified because Tensing feared for his life and acted in self defense.
