Day 8 Part 2
Day 8 Part 1
The kidnapping trial of Tammy Moorer continues Thursday in Horry County, South Carolina. Prosecutors say Moorer and her husband Sidney Moorer were behind the disappearance of 20-year-old Heather Elvis in 2013.
The prosecution rested their case on Wednesday, after 7 days of presenting their case. They called witnesses who supported their theory that Elvis was lured to a boat landing where she was abducted. The last time anyone saw Elvis alive was December 18, 2013, and she was reported missing after her car was discovered abandoned the next day. After months of investigation, the Moorers were both charged with murder, but those counts were later dropped, leaving kidnapping and conspiracy charges.
Prosecutors say that Elvis was kidnapped by the Moorers months after she and Sidney Moorer ended an affair they were having, amid rumors that she was pregnant with his child. They called her old boss to the stand, who said that Tammy once called and asked him to fire Elvis because she was supposedly spreading rumors of the pregnancy. Moorer’s roommate also testified, saying that Elvis was in love with Sidney Moorer, but was afraid of Tammy.
On Thursday, the defense will begin presenting their case, and Tammy Moorer is expected to take the stand and testify in her own defense. This almost took place on Wednesday, but court ended early so she will likely begin her testimony Thursday morning.
Sidney Moorer, meanwhile, has already faced a trial, but that ended in a hung jury. He is still waiting for a second trial, although he has already been convicted of obstructing the investigation.
