Brian Hyde was back in a Florida court on Thursday for the third day of his second murder trial, this after a mistrial was declared in November.
The trial, it is believed, will end by Thursday or Friday.
Hyde allegedly killed 37-year-old Dorla Pitts and her daughter 17-year-old Starlette Pitts, who was six months pregnant in 2015. The unborn child also died. Starlette Pitts’ 19-year-old boyfriend Michael Kelly was also killed.
Hyde was arrested on four second-degree murder charges.
At the time of the killings, police described the scene as “almost unimaginable.”
“All homicide scenes are normally violent, but even for us, this scene was what we considered almost unimaginable,” Lt. Matt Sands of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.
A mistrial was declared after a state’s witness mentioned Hyde’s undocumented immigration history. Hyde is from Belize and had been staying in Florida with family members he is accused of killing.
