The trial of David “DJ” Creato Jr. continues Tuesday morning in Camden County, New Jersey. Creato is accused of murdering his 3-year-old son Brendan and leaving the body in a park on October 13, 2015. Creato, who maintains his innocence, was the one who reported his son’s disappearance that morning. Authorities found Brendan’s body a few hours later, at a location just a few blocks from their apartment. Prosecutors say half of Brendan’s body had been submerged in a creek, and that he died from either drowning or smothering.
Part 2:
The trial began last Thursday, with opening statements from both sides. Afterwards, the prosecution began calling witnesses, including officers who investigated the case. Later in the day, Brendan’s mother Samantha Denoto took the stand. Denoto said that authorities had her record a conversation with Creato during the investigation. During that discussion, Creato gave an unusual explanation for how the 3-year-old could have gotten from the apartment to the park by himself. “He had told me that maybe the spirits told him to walk down to the woods which is completely odd and unexplainable,” Denoto told the court.
Part 3:
Denoto did, however, acknowledge that she had known Creato to be odd in his spirituality, and that prior to this, Creato had always been a loving father .
Court is scheduled to resume at 9:00 am ET Tuesday morning.
