The “stand your ground” hearing of retired police Captain Curtis Reeves continues on Wedenesday. Reeves shot and killed Chad Oulson during an altercation at a movie theater three years ago, after Oulson was texting during previews. Reeves claims that he feared for his life after Oulson approached him, and shouldn’t be charged with any crimes due to Florida’s “stand your ground” law which allows deadly force if there is a reasonable fear of mortal danger. The hearing, which began last week, will determine whether Reeves will face a trial for second degree murder or gain immunity. On Tuesday, Reeves himself took the stand. After a lengthy discussion of his law enforcement background, he answered questions about what happened the day he shot Oulson. He described how Oulson threatened and hit him after Reeves told theater management that Oulson wouldn’t put his phone away. Reeves said he was trapped and feared for his life, which is why he pulled the trigger, shooting Oulson.

After Reeves finished testifying, the judge announced that court will resume Wednesday morning at 10:00 am.
