On Wednesday, a jury in Orlando, Florida only spent about an hour to decide that Juan Rosario committed first-degree murder, and arson. The 29-year-old Floridian could get the death penalty for beating his 83-year-old neighbor Elena Ortega to death in September 18, 2013. Investigators say he stole items from her house, and started several fires to hide the evidence. He is already serving 18 years in prison for an unrelated 2013 home invasion robbery that happened nearby.
The same jurors will meet again starting May 30 to decide if Rosario gets the death penalty, or life in prison.
Update – April 27, 8:59 a.m.: Added information on the verdict.
