Tow-Trucking Trump Supporter Refuses Service to Disabled Bernie Fan Stranded on Highway

A North Carolina tow-truck driver is defending his decision to abandon a woman on the highway after noticing she was a Bernie Sanders supporter when he arrived to help her with her car.

Cassandra McWade experienced a minor car accident outside of Asheville on Monday, and local tower Kenneth Shupe was dispatched to the scene after she called for assistance. Shupe was about to load up the car, but then he noticed that McWade’s car had Sanders bumper stickers on it, and told her that he wasn’t going to help her after all.

“Something came over me, I think the Lord came to me, and he just said get in the truck and leave,” Shupe said. “And when I got in my truck, you know, I was so proud, because I felt like I finally drew a line in the sand and stood up for what I believed.”

Shupe confirmed he’s a Donald Trump supporter, but he told Fox Carolina 21 that refusing service to McWade was about business over politics because “socialists” have argued with him over paying bills in the past. McWade suffers from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and early-stage Crohns (meaning that she is legally handicapped), and she insists that her placard was visible when Shupe arrived, and she was left at the scene for another hour and a half after he bailed.

Shupe says he did not know that McWade was disabled, but he wouldn’t have towed her car anyway.

“Had she been disabled, would I have towed her car? No ma’am. I would have pulled forward and sat there with her to make sure she was OK until another wrecker service showed up to get her home safely, but I still would not have towed her car. I stand by my decision, and I would do it again today if the opportunity presented itself.”
