Jayme Closs‘ accused kidnapper Jake Patterson made a jail cell call to a reporter and admitted that he’s in love with the 13-year-old girl.
Patterson got on the phone with WCCO‘s Jennifer Mayerle and described how he still feels.
“I love her,” he said, referring to Jayme. According to Detective Jeff Nelson with the Barron County Sheriff’s Department, Patterson recalled how one morning he was driving behind a school bus and saw Closs get on it. Patterson allegedly said that when he saw Closs, “he knew that was the girl he was going to take.”
To do so, the 21-year-old Patterson allegedly murdered Jayme’s parents James and Denise Closs, then kidnapped the girl and held her in a Wisconsin cabin from October 15 to January 10.
Patterson said, and you can hear him say this in the clip above, that when he and Jayme were at the cabin they were “just watching TV, playing board games, talking about stuff.”
“We cooked a lot, everything we made was homemade,” he said.
Patterson said that he was confessing to the crimes because he “didn’t wanna cause any more trouble.” It has been reported that Patterson is pleading guilty. He is scheduled to be arraigned on March 27.
Closs remained missing for a full 88 days. Patterson’s contacts, texts, and social media activity during that time were all examined by forensics experts.
The woman who found Closs, Jeanne Nutter, told her story to the Law & Crime Network in an interview less than 24 hours after she discovered the teen. Nutter initially did not wish to be identified, but eventually decided to speak publicly. Also joining her was Peter Kasinkas, whose home Nutter and Closs went to in order to alert authorities.
“The real hero is not me, it’s Jayme, who was able to leave the house and find me on the road,” Nutter told host Heather Hansen. “I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.”
Patterson was charged with kidnapping, armed burglary, and two counts of first-degree intentional homicide.
