Attorney and Trump supporter Joseph diGenova wants Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein fired immediately, and he wants Attorney General Jeff Sessions to do it. In an appearance on Fox News Thursday night, diGenova, who was recently considered as a potential member of Trump’s personal legal team, railed against Rosenstein and the FBI for the raid on Michael Cohen‘s office.
“Rod Rosenstein is so incompetent, compromised, and conflicted that he can no longer serve as the Deputy Attorney General,” diGenova said, “and Jeff Sessions now has an obligation to the President of the United States to fire Rod Rosenstein.”
DiGenova blasted Rosenstein for authorizing the FBI’s raid of Cohen’s office, which he called “unconstitutional and unprofessional.”
“Jeff Sessions, tomorrow morning, should fire Rod Rosenstein,” he continued. “It is not up to the president to fire Mr. Rosenstein, it is Mr. Sessions’ job, and he has a duty to fire Rod Rosenstein.”
Since diGenova made these comments Thursday night, he apparently wants Rosenstein gone before lunchtime on Friday.
So far, there has been no word on whether Sessions will act on this. President Trump hasn’t mentioned Rosenstein in any of his Friday morning tweets, although he did describe firing former FBI Director James Comey as a “great honor.”
Mr. diGenova and his wife Veronia Toensing both met with Trump for possible positions on his legal team, but ultimately did not get the jobs. This was due to conflicts, as Toensing, who runs a law firm with her husband, represents other individuals who are connected with Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s investigation of Trump campaign ties to Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.
