Former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton gave an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Tuesday, and the topic of sexual misconduct allegations came up. Clinton was quick, however, to differentiate allegations made against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and President Donald Trump, from those made against her husband, President Bill Clinton.
“There’s a very significant difference, and that is the intense, long-lasting, partisan investigation that was conducted in the ’90s,” Clinton said, a subtle dig at what Democrats claimed to be an insufficient FBI investigation of allegations made against Kavanaugh prior to his Supreme Court confirmation.
“If the Republicans, starting with President Trump on down, want a comparison, they should welcome such an investigation themselves,” she said.
Kavanaugh faced allegations that he tried to sexually assault Dr. Christine Blasey Ford when they were in high school and exposed himself to Deborah Ramirez during a college dorm party. The FBI’s allegations resulted in a lack of corroboration of these claims. Julie Swetnick also made allegations linking Kavanaugh to high school parties where he allegedly spiked the punch to help get girls intoxicated before they were gang raped.
Trump himself has been accused of varying degrees of sexual misconduct ranging from harassment to assault by more than a dozen women, including former Apprentice contest Summer Zervos, who is currently suing the president for defamation based on his response to her allegations. Trump denied the allegations against him, saying they were politically motivated fabrications.
The subject of allegations came up in Clinton’s interview in reference to Bill and Hillary’s upcoming speaking tour, and whether they were prepared to field questions about the allegations made against the former president. Clinton was famously accused of sexual harassment by Paula Jones, which resulted in an investigation and litigation. During that investigation, Kathleen Willey testified that Clinton sexually assaulted her in 1993. Juanita Broaddrick also claims that Clinton raped her in 1978.
Tuesday morning, Broaddrick tweeted about the speaking tour.
“PLEASE help me obtain 100k signatures on this White House petition to investigate Bill Clinton for Sex Crimes. It’s way overdue!” she said, including a link to a petition.
