Police say they arrested the paraglider who flew within feet of Donald Trump at the president’s Turnberry golf course in Scotland. The man, a 55-year-old, was charged Sunday and is scheduled to appear in Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday, cops said in a CNN report.
The incident happened Friday. As seen on video, a paraglider flew over the course grounds. The person’s parachute read “Greenpeace” and he flew a banner that read “Trump: Well Below Par.”
The Secret Service said it was helping investigate, but said Scottish authorities will handle updates.
The environmentalist organization took credit for the stunt.
“Watch as @realDonaldTrump tries to hide from our message flying right over his head,” said a tweet from its U.K. Twitter account, later adding, “With @realdonaldtrump ignoring the amazing protests taking place up and down the country, we wanted to make sure there was one he couldn’t avoid.”
The group said the president didn’t believe in climate change, and criticized him for pulling the United States of the Paris Agreement that restricted greenhouse-gas emissions.
Scotland cops announced Saturday that the paraglider was wanted for the incident.
“It is a criminal offence to fly within the airspace restriction zone,” said Assistant Chief Constable Mark Williams, according to Metro. “Officers are carrying out inquiries to trace the pilot.”
Trump’s visit to the United Kingdom sparked protests in London. On Saturday, he was seen golfing at his Turnberry golf club, when he waved at protesters calling him a racist.
