Charges have been dropped against the man accused of murdering former intern Chandra Levy in 2001.
ABC 7 reports:
Grandique was convicted for Levy’s murder in 2010, but his lawyers claimed important testimony from a cellmate was a lie. They said the witness only wanted to get preferential treatment from law enforcement, and a federal judge agreed that there were concerns. A retrial had been scheduled for November.
Levy’s death captured a lot of media attention because of a purported relationship with then-Congressman Gary Condit (D-California).

Update – July 28, 3:57 EST: Added supplementary information on why a federal judge granted Guandique a new trial.
