One of the subjects that came up on Wednesday during and after a court appearance in the matter of the federal raid of Michael Cohen‘s office is the possible existence of seized audio recordings of Cohen related to the payment made to Stormy Daniels in exchange for her silence regarding an affair she claims she had with Donald Trump. The existence of such recordings has not been confirmed, but now Daniels’ lawyer Michael Avenatti says that not only do they exist, but there’s at least one with Trump’s voice on it.
In a tweet Thursday morning, Avenatti wrote, “I know for a fact that at least one, & likely many, of the #TrumpTapes contain Mr. Trump’s voice.”
This comes after Avenatti mentioned an alleged recording of a conversation between Cohen and Daniels’ former attorney Keith Davidson regarding the hush agreement that is of interest to his client. Cohen’s lawyer insisted that any audio recordings are carefully protected. Avenatti took this to mean that such a recording does indeed exist, and is now claiming that more “Trump Tapes” are out there, including at least one with Trump himself speaking.
If this is true, it could destroy any remaining claim that Trump didn’t know about the payment to Daniels at the time it was arranged. Avenatti didn’t specify how he knows about the alleged recording, other than saying that his knowledge comes “from the work that we have done and through the assistance of true patriots,” implying that some anonymous source leaked it to him.
