A white man allegedly urinated on a 5-year-old black girl, and called her a racial slur.
Police didn’t release his name at first in an Associated Press report, but a WZZM reporter identified him as 60-year-old David Allen Dean, who is on the Michigan sex offender registry for convictions in 1981 and 1997.
According to reports, police said the girl’s parents called Wednesday evening about a white man urinating on their daughter. Two 7-year-olds, and another 5-year-old saw it happen, cops said. Investigators identified the suspect after canvassing the neighborhood, and they took him into custody at his home.
No injures were reported. Grand Rapids jail records obtained by Law&Crime show that Dean remains locked up as of Thursday. It’s unclear if he has an attorney in this matter. Charges against him are pending.
“The allegations are disturbing, especially because they involve a child,” Grand Rapids prosecuting attorney Christopher R. Becker said in a news release obtained by WZZM. “However, we cannot make a decision until we have the final report. It is premature to say what will happen until the investigation is complete.”
Michigan sex offender records obtained by Law&Crime show that Dean is considered “non-compliant” because of an ID violation. His July 31, 1981 conviction stemmed from attempted criminal sexual conduct in the second-degree. On August 18, 1997, he was convicted for actual criminal sexual conduct in the second degree on a person under age thirteen.
