Newly released footage shows a man shooting up the Trump National Doral Hotel in Miami, Florida on May 18. Prosecutors say that’s defendant Jonathan Oddi. He was in arrested in May. Authorities said he broke into the building, ranted about President Donald Trump, former President Barack Obama and rapper P. Diddy, displayed an American flag in the lobby, and shot at cops before being capped in the leg.
The video from inside the building purportedly shows this happening. A man in black clothes and a beanie enters the lobby while holding what seems to be a handgun. He takes a massive American flag, and drapes it across the counter.
Police arrive at the scene, and the man puts down the firearm in an apparent display of surrender. That doesn’t last. He picks up the gun, and opens fire multiple times before running away. Cops chase him further into the building. The suspect can be seen hobbling before an officer apprehends him.
Oddi’s arrest and anti-Trump rant is old news, but the video release comes amid escalating fears of political violence nationwide. Wednesday saw a spate of suspicious packages sent to CNN and left-leaning figures.
Oddi’s case is still pending. Records obtained by Law&Crime show a status conference is scheduled for Thursday.
The defendant is reportedly a fitness trainer and former porn star who made some expensive real estate purchases after claiming to be broke.
His attorneys aren’t disputing that what happened happened.
“Mr. Oddi is coming to realize exactly what happened and is extremely remorseful,” lawyer Christopher DeCoste and Tara Kawass previously said according to the Miami Herald back in May. They’re now suggesting he could be found not guilty by reason of insanity.
