A California jury reached a verdict in the case of Diana Lovejoy and Weldon McDavid Jr., both charged with a murder plot targeting Lovejoy’s estranged husband, but when the announcement came, Lovejoy couldn’t take it. As the jury announced their guilty verdicts, Lovejoy fainted, landing with a thud before being carried off by a court officer.
Lovejoy and McDavid were both found guilty of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder, after prosecutors accused them of luring Greg Mulvihill to a dirt road, after a person claiming to be a private investigator told him he would bring him information about Lovejoy. Mulvihill and Lovejoy had been separated since 2014 and in the process of a divorce, after she had accused him of sexually assaulting her and their son.
When Mulvihill and a co-worker went to a spot where he had been directed to pick up the promised information, they heard shots fired and Mulvihill was hit before they ran away. Phone records and evidence at the scene connected led authorities to Lovejoy and McDavid, the latter also convicted of assault with a deadly weapon.
The reading of the verdict was interrupted upon Lovejoy’s collapse, but resumed soon after. She eventually regained consciousness, and was taken out of court, bound at the hands and feet. It took jurors parts of two days to reach their decision.
Lovejoy faces 25 years to life in prison, and McDavid faces 50 to life. Sentencing is scheduled for December 12.
