Damon Cole isn’t just a cop for the Fort Worth Police Department. He’s Batman. This officer spends his off-time dressing up as superheroes for kids fighting serious illnesses.
It just so happened he was the Dark Knight at a Walmart kid’s safety fair on Saturday. That’s when he learned about an alleged shoplifting at the store. Four DVDs were lifted, and Officer Cole arrived at the scene. In costume.
He had to convince employees he was a real cop.
“Batman says, ‘Hey, wait, wait, wait, I know I have this costume on, but I’m an off-duty police officer,'” Walmart spokesman Anthony Drake told Fox 4 News.
Cole only handed the suspect a citation since the combined value of the DVDs was less than $100. One of the movies: Lego Batman.
“You cannot steal my movie, come on,” Cole told the outlet.
At least the suspect got a selfie out of it.
Cole explained it’s the first time in his 17-year career that he has arrested someone as the Caped Crusader. He has also met with kids dressed up as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, and Superman. He has also appeared as the Dark Knight in FWPD recruitment videos.
The Gotham City Police Department could not be reached for comment.
