Disturbing video began circulating the internet earlier this week, showing a young man pick up a woman, drop her onto the ground, drag her to a swimming pool, and throw her in. The video went viral before any details came out regarding who was involved or when it happened, but the Sheriff’s office in Broward County, Florida now says that Leon Balfour, 16, turned himself in regarding the incident which took place on Saturday at a community pool in North Lauderdale. The victim is reportedly 68-year-old Nancy James.
According to local WSVN, James had gone over to tell partygoers to keep it down. “We’re just asking them — just lower the volume,” James told the news station. “I didn’t care what they were doing. That’s not my job to police the place.”
That’s when the suspect, who authorities believe to be Balfour, picked her up and dropped her flat onto the ground. Upon close inspection, the violent-looking slam looks like it may have been the result of the teen slipping on the ground.
“I didn’t really think that he meant to hurt her,” one person who was there told WSVN. “I think he just meant to like spook her or something.”
Still, what was clearly intentional was when James was then dragged over to the nearby pool and hurled into the water.
James reportedly wasn’t hurt too badly, and she declined to go to the hospital. “Black and blue, but you know what, he’s not gonna ever do this to anyone else,” she said.
Balfour is facing a charge for battery on a person 65 years or older, and is expected in court on Tuesday.
