Teacher Pleads Not Guilty After Allegedly Bringing Gun to School

jason adams, screengrab via NBCOn Wednesday, a Connecticut judge entered a not-guilty plea for the teacher who allegedly brought a gun to a Newtown middle school.

46-year-old Jason Adams was arrested on April 6, ABC 7 reports. A coworker told law enforcement he’d brought a .45-caliber pistol onto school grounds. Police told ABC 7 he had a permit, but state law prohibits people from bringing guns into school grounds.

Adams is on administrative leave. He did not respond to ABC 7’s requests for comment.

“This matter is very serious and troubling,” the Newtown Public School System said in a statement obtained by NBC Connecticut. “Both the Newtown Public School system and the Newtown Police Department took immediate steps to address the matter.”

The next court hearing is scheduled for May 25.
