A few days ago, word broke that teachers in Channelview, Texas faced discipline after students received disrespectful awards. One so-called prize: a girl got a certificate that read “Most Likely to Become a Terrorist.” Well, Fox 26 followed up with one of her schoolmates, Sydney Caesar, who claimed she got a prize that read “Most Likely to Blend in with White People.”
“For that child to be called either a terrorist or she’s not black enough, basically now, the students are taking that and that’s her label from now on for the rest of the school year,” said mother Latonya Robinson.
Caesar said she skipped the last day of class because she was so distraught. Both she and the other girl, Lizeth Villanueva, are 7th graders at Anthony Aguirre Junior High.
Fox 26 went to the home of the teacher who allegedly gave Caesar the award, but no one answered the door.
“The Channelview Independent School District would like to emphasize that a recent incident where insensitive and offensive mock awards presented to students are in no way associated with the AVID College Readiness System or the AVID Center,” officials told the outlet in a statement.
